Lyrics
A rusted out chassis of a '69 Chevy rested on blocks out behind the barn. A little red paint and some West Texas dust, was all that kept her from fallin' apart.
I sat on a splintered old apple crate, turned the wheel, and closed my eyes. Shifted gears and popped the clutch, and disappeared out of sight.
(Chorus 1) Down nowhere road, never leavin' my backyard. I saw the world through the windshield of that car. My daddy called her a bucket of bolts, she was a dream machine to an 8 year old. There was nowhere I couldn't go down nowhere road.
Bought a monkey wrench and a phillips screwdriver, I swore someday that car would run. When I turned eighteen she purred like a kitten, U packed my bags said goodbye to everyone.
Jump in the car, strapped myself in. Took one last look around, turned the key, started to smile and burned rubber out of town.
(Chorus 2) Down nowhere road, never leavin' my backyard. I saw the world through the windshield of that car. My daddy called her a bucket of bolts, she was a dream machine to an 18 year old. There was nowhere I couldn't go down nowhere road.
(Bridge) I drove the rockies to the Smokies, never once looked at a map. Did odd jobs when my belly hit empty and ol' red needed gas. She died in her sleep one cold night in Tijuana, Mexico, bought a one way ticket on a greyhound bus, I'd gone as far as I could go.
(Chorus 3) Down nowhere road, never leavin' my backyard. I saw the world through the windshield of that car. My daddy called her bucket of bolts, she was a dream machine to a 20 year old. There was nowhere I couldn't go down nowhere road.
(Tag) It's good to know there's home sweet home, at the end of nowhere road.
